Macedonian Parliamentary Elections 2011

22 / 05 / 2011

Dear Macedonians,

Over the next few weeks for the first time in the Macedonian closer history since it’s independence we are faced with an important period, The Macedonians in the Diaspora have been given the right to vote in the forthcoming parliamentary elections that will be held on 4th June 2011.

This presents an opportunity for all of us in Victoria and Australia to fulfill what we have aspired for years and finally choose a representative in the Macedonian Parliament.

The Macedonian Community Council of Melbourne and Victoria unreservedly supports this wonderful initiative of the Government of Republic of Macedonia and welcomes their effort that enabled us to vote in the forthcoming elections.

The Diaspora has been and will remain inseparable part of our homeland and we must do everything in our power these first historic elections to be successful.

We are aware that there was some inadequacies especially in the timing of the information supplied to the diaspora and therefor the Macedonian Community Council of Victoria conveyed that message to the Government of Republic of Macedonia.

The Macedonian Community Council of Melbourne and Victoria stands firmly behind the fact that we should not let any technical barriers to shake the stability, integrity and the will of the Macedonians in Victoria and therefore appeal to all who are registered to vote get out on 4th of June and give their vote for the good of our people in Australia and the Republic of Macedonia.

Any manipulation of the Macedonian community with misinformation and encouragement of hatred by individuals is strongly condemned and totally not acceptable to our community.

Last week, under the initiative from the candidate for the upcoming election Mr. Miroslav (Miki) Dodevski the Macedonian Community Council of Victoria hosted a roundtable at which Mr. Dodevski presented his plan and program for the Macedonian Community in Victoria as part of his candidacy in the elections.

As a former Executive Member of the Council Mr. Dodevski is well known to the Macedonian community and we expressed our gratitude for his huge contribution in over that period and beyond. We also appreciated that Mr. Dodevski is well acquainted and informed with the fundamental issues facing our community today.

The Macedonian Community Council of Melbourne and Victoria considers that the program, capacity, morality and integrity of Mr Dodevski is exactly what our community in Victoria and Australia needs. We also conveyed our strong opposition to the “name” change as well as asked Mr. Dodevski to influence the immediate stop to the imposed negotiations that are currently taking part.

Among other things, we expressed our support for everything he has achieved up to date, wishing him great success with the hope that it will continue to work for the good of the Macedonian community in Victoria, Australia and of course the Republic of Macedonia.
