Australia Day Parade

As every year in Melbourne, the traditional Australia Day Parade was held on the 26th of January. The parade was comprised by a march that encompassed all nationalities making up Australian society, which also included the Macedonians.

Presentation of the Macedonian community in Australia consisted of the Macedonian Community Council of Victoria, members of the traditional dancing groups “Alexander the 3rd of Macedon” and “Tanec”, the folklore group

“Veseli Resenchani”, as well as His Eminence the Metropolitan of Prespa and Pelagonia & Administrator of Australia and New Zealand – Bishop Petar, accompanied by members of the clergy. The parade commenced with a speech by the Victorian premier – Ted Baillieu, as well as a speech by the mayor of Melbourne – Robert Doyle. After the speeches all 77 representatives of different cultural groups marched in their traditional costumes and were accompanied by their traditional music. The celebrations came to an end with an honorary gun (cannon) salute by the army and an aero display by the air force.
